Hello
Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT)
Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT)
Test the efficiency of the intrinsic pathway, i.e. factors: XII, HMWK, prekallikrein, XI, X, IX, VIII, V, II, and fibrinogen.
this test is used to monitor patients on therapeutic heparin anticoagulation.
Specimen
Non-lipemic, non-icteric platelet-poor plasma (PPP) derived from whole blood (WB) collected in a plastic blood tube containing 1 part buffered 3.2% sodium citrate for each 9 parts WB.
Uses of APTT:
- To detect intrinsic factor deficiency.
- To monitor Heparin therapy.
- To detect circulating anticoagulants/inhibitors against intrinsic factors.
- Preoperative screening.
- Screening for Lupus inhibitors.
Reporting Results:
Results are reported as APTT ratio:-
Patient APTT time
APTT Ratio = ————————————-
Normal Control APTT time
Normal range :
Normal time of APTT vary according to the manufacturer of the partial thromboplastin.
Generally it is between 20-35 seconds.
