Definition:-
– The range of intermediate proteinuria b/w 30-300 mg/day is known as
microalbuminuria . It is the small excreted amount of albumin in urine.
The presence of it in urine indicate increased permeability and damage
to the glomerulus. Early detection may predict diabetic nephropathy.
Clinical significance :-
– Increased in :-
DM patients type 1 and some type 2.
Specimen:-
3 random and one 24 hours urine sample collected over the course of a week [ to minimize intraindividual variations ].

Nephrologest and endocrinologist
Prespecimen processing :-
The patient should consume alow fat diet the day of the test.
Methodology :-
Immunoturbidometry.
Guiding Reference Value:
( < 30 mg/day )
Limitation :-
Some drugs cause elevation of microalbuminuria such as :- ampicillin , aspirin , corticosteroids , gentamycin and neomycin.
