Hello
Tubular Reabsorption phosphate test {TRP}
Tubular Reabsorption phosphate test {TRP}
Definition:
– Tubular Reabsorption phosphate is an equation calculated after the
estimation of phosphate and Creatinine in both serum and urine.
To determine the percentage of phosphate reabsorbtion by tubules. It’s as follow: –
TRP = 100 X {1- Pu X Cs }
Ps X Cu
Clinical significance:
Increased in: hypoparathyroidism. –
Decreased in: hyperparathyroidism –
Specimen and collection:
Urine: collect morning specimen over 2- 4 hours for testing Pi and Creatinine
Blood: collect blood at midpoint of test period and test Pi and Creatinine.
Order the test:
by endocrinologist, and Nephrologest.
Prespecimen preparation:
patient consumes only water after midnight and receives normal Ca, Pi diet for 5 days prior to test.
Normal Range :
82-95%
Limitation:
– Renal insufficiency increases excretion of phosphate will cause falsely elevation of the result.
TRP reflects the role of PTH Determination of TRP, doesn’t replace measurements of PTH.
