Creatinine clearance test:–

-Serum creatinine will be abnormal if 50% of kidney function is damaged, hence it is not considered as an early marker for the disease.

– Measurement of urine creatinine excretion is used in calculating the creatinine clearance(cCr).

The -cCr is the standard clinical tool for estimating GFR, especially in the early stages of renal disease.

Sample :–

24-hour sample is collected and then the concentration of creatinine in the serum and urine is determined, and with careful attention to the units of measurement, the cCr is calculated as follows :

cCr : Creatinine clearance.

uCr : Creatinine in urine.

V : Volume of urine.

sCr : Creatinine in serum.

Nomal range:

 Male : 105 ± 20 ml/min.

Female : 97 ± 20 ml/min.
